After taking down the Christmas decorations, I realized just how stark and boring our dining room is. Since we never really use it (except on holidays) it has been easy to neglect. My goal is to get it looking updated with a little texture, contrast and warmth. Maybe we will even want to eat in there more. Here are some images that have me inspired:
I went out shopping for some of the basics...
A textured, rich-colored rug (Sisal Rug Crate & Barrel)
A dark, bold set of lamps with wide drum shades (Architectural Salvage Lamp Pottery Barn)
Since Christmas I have added the rug (trying to flatten it out is not easy), the 2 corner lamps, curtains hung over all 4 windows...
and a glossy black serving tray to add a little more contrast.
The dark chocolate brown Parson chair slipcovers will hopefully add even more contrast and are en-route. Can't wait until they come! (Parson slipcovers $14.99 each Target.com)
I am brainstorming how to add pops of color that can be easily changed out (loving teal lately) such as seat cushions or a table runner made out of Peacock Pool fabric...
(Trina Turk)
The cherry on top would be a classic (electrical) chandelier hanging over the table (Antique Bronze Chandelier Overstock.com)
This is a really embarrassing iphoto mash-up of what I want the end result to look like. Fingers crossed it turns out ok! Anything's an improvement from the "before" state:
